The first naval conflict between ironclad vessels took place on March 9, 1862, between the Confederate Navy's "Merrimac" (left) and the United States Navy's "Monitor". Meeting at Hampton Roads in the State of Virginia, the two ships fought an indecisive battle, leaving unchanged the blockade of the Chesapeake Bay and the Confederate control of the James River. The motor is equipped with an electric starter and an electric generator which supplies current for the running lights and for charing the starter battery. This vessel has sleeping accomodations for 6 persons. Safety First is a 40' x 9'5" V-bottom cruiser, designed by Wm. H. Hand, Jr., and built by Rocky River Dry Dock Co., Rocky River, Ohio, for Mr. H.M. Hanna, Jr., of Cleveland, Ohio. She is powered with a Model FM, 6 cylinder, 85-125 HP. Sterling. The motor is of the counterbalance crankshaft type Sterling, with a bore of a 5 1/2" and a stroke of 6 3/4". The speed is 32 M.P.H."
Years before he mass-produced the Fordson tractor, Henry Ford , whose birth Centennial is being observed this Centennial is being observed this year, experimented with what he called an "automobile plow". This 1908 photograph shows him at the controls of one of his first tractors- powered by a 1904 Model-B type engine. The picture was made on one of the many farms Mr. Ford owened at that time in the Dearborn area.

Her power plant consists of two Model F, 6-cylinder Sterling engines of the counterbalanced crankshaft type, wich develop 145 H.P. at 1400 R.P.M. The motors are said to be practically noiseless and vibrationless at that R.P.M. They are all enclosed and are equipped with electric starters and electric generators. Lynx.", stämpel "Karl G. With this invention the boat can make 15 miles an hour against a river current and at a great saving of gasoline. Since 1874 Schmidt has been working incessantly and his first air propeller, obtaining its power from a steam engine, propelled a canal boat 130 feet long, carrying 90 persons.
